International Programs - Who We Are

International Programs was set up as a consultancy arm of the Australian Centre to promote Australian studies and to foster engagement with the broader community through the customisation and delivery short-term academic and cultural programs for international student groups.
For well over a decade, International Programs has offered a range of programs to international groups, mainly at undergraduate level, but also at graduate, pre-tertiary and business levels. These programs are tailored to the specific needs and interests of the clients, including several leading universities and consortia in the Asia and North American regions.
The programs focus, in general, on Australian Studies, and draw on the expertise of the academic staff at the Australian Centre in areas of history, art, culture, gender studies, language and literature, indigenous issues, politics, built and natural environments, public cultural and space, multiculturalism and migration. The programs are designed to contribute to a fuller understanding of the complexities of contemporary Australian life and are committed to issues of cultural and environmental diversity. Additional programs are developed to suit a wide range of other disciplines and interests and, as such, may incorporate core content provided by other departments, schools or faculties, as well as external government, industry and community organizations. Academic program content is complimented by activities, excursions, cultural presentations, fieldtrips and work experience opportunities, all coordinated by International Programs staff.
The programs themselves are varied in their structure and purpose. Some are self-contained, some are extensions of faculty-led programs, whilst others are designed to 'enhance' existing Study Abroad programs through the provision of pastoral care and educational travel and activities or by offering customized courses or research projects that enable students to obtain additional credit though their home institution.
International Programs has developed a strong reputation for providing total program coordination services unique to the University whereby accommodation, arrival services, student support and counselling and experiential activities and fieldtrips are offered to complement the academic content of the programs. These additional coordination and support services also enable groups to participate in off-site programs to the risk management, pastoral care and supervision satisfaction of their home universities. This is a service that is increasingly sought after as interest in short-term but whole experience programming grows in the study abroad sector in light of financial constraints of students and home institutions, particularly in the United States.
